During my trip to India in September 2024, I had the immense privilege of meeting an artisan weaver whose hospitality left as much of an impression on me as his expertise. Accompanied by Satnam, my driver, we visited his workshop where, with a traditional wooden loom, he wove superb fabrics, with expertise inherited from his ancestors for several generations.
After the demonstration, while his son showed us his beautiful creations, the craftsman offered us something to eat: a “family” meal prepared by his wife, which he served to us himself. Simple and delicious food offered with a generosity that went far beyond the simple act of feeding.
In India, hosting a stranger is seen as an honour, as giving is a form of spiritual wealth. The act of offering a meal is a celebration of our shared humanity. Through this gesture, I understood the depth of this culture: we are truly enriched by giving, and it is in this sincere exchange that true wealth, that of the heart, lies. This experience touched me deeply, and I particularly cherish this encounter and this moment of grace in my memory.
