Dupatta LOHITA — traditional Ajrakh print
Lohita is a unique and vibrant piece, hand-printed using the ancestral method of Gujarat. It can be worn as a stole, scarf, or draped over the body, but can also be used as a decorative wall hanging!
The history of this piece
This sumptuous dupatta was born in the heart of Kutch, in a small family workshop in a village near Bhuj.
During our journey without a fixed itinerary, it was thanks to the generosity of the locals we met on our route that we were guided to the craftsman who made it.
He welcomed us into his home, his studio where carved wooden blocks meet the magic of natural dyes. He simply showed us his work and introduced us to his wife and daughter, then entrusted us with a few exceptional pieces—including this red LOHITA, printed using the Ajrakh method.
Why we love it
- For its sublime red color and its Akrakh patterns
- For the fluid feel of cotton, ideal in all seasons
- For the emotion it carries: that of a craftsman, of a gesture, of a place

- 100% cotton
- Dimensions: 256 x 110 cm
- Hand-printed with a wooden block (Ajrakh), natural dyes

Blockprint creations
Blockprinting is a completely artisanal work that makes each piece a unique creation. Slight irregularities in the patterns or shades are evidence of the manual and authentic manufacturing process. Far from being defects, these small imperfections add character and make each piece unique, bearing the unique imprint of the craftsman who made it, for a result that is both original and precious.

A complex creative process
The making of wooden blocks for Indian blockprinting is an art in itself. From selecting the wood to carefully carving the designs, each step requires great expertise and a keen eye for detail. The different types of blocks – from outlines to fills, borders and background details – each play a key role in creating the intricate and colourful designs that are characteristic of Indian blockprinting.
